In this lab we learned about HAWT(horizontal axis wind turbines) and VAWT(vertical axis wind turbines). The objective was to design a wind turbine blade that created a lot of voltage. Our imitation wind was a 2-speed fan and a leaf blower. It gave us three wind types to test with: low, medium, and high. After testing lots of different sized, shaped, materials, and numbers of blades my group made a conclusion. Rigid and thin blades work the best for VAWT and that four was the perfect number of blades. The thin shape of blade reduced drag, and its rigidity cut through the air smoothly.
