For the past few weeks, our class has been making videos on the physics of sports. My group chose to find the physics in dodgeball.
Concepts
Force: a push or pull
The generic equation for force is force=mass x acceleration, but my group did not use this formula for our video
Force of the impact: how much force was transferred from the ball to the target (Mackenzie)
The formula for this was mass x velocity=force x time. We used this equation to discover how much force was transferred from the ball to Mackenzie.
Velocity: the speed of the ball in a certain direction
We only calculated the horizontal velocity of the ball in motion using the formula velocity=change of distance/change of time.
Force of the throw: how much force you put into the ball, while throwing it
Mass x velocity=force x time is the equation used to find the force of the throw. My group used it to see how much force I exert
on the ball when throwing it.
Patience: the amount of tolerance you have for irritating things or delay, before getting angry
I learned how to have more patience when our video kept getting mixed up. I became more accustomed to it, which helped my tolerance grow.

Overview
We had about seven work days to complete our video. The first couple of days we discussed different ideas for sports and made a story board and script for our video. We collaborated all of our ideas until we had a solid plan for the video. After we completed the planning stage, we started filming our video. It was a lot of fun. Sometimes we would take a bad video and end up laughing at ourselves. We got almost all of the filming done in one day. This project was fairly short, but we managed to learn a lot and get a lot done at the same time. Once we had all of our clips, we put them all together and edited them to create our video. We were right on schedule and finished our video right on the due date. At least we thought it was finished.
My group had some complications towards the end of this project. We realized that some parts of our video didn't have any sound. We decided to fill the blank spots with music. After fixing the sound issue we re-posted the video on YouTube. Then we discovered that voice overs were missing and some of our clips had been rearranged or deleted. This happened to us about two more times before we got our video back in order and perfected. Luckily, we had a few extra days before the film festival to fix our video, since we had finished on time.
The Film Festival where we showcased our physics of sports videos was really cool. We were able to see everybody's completed videos and the other class's. It was really interesting to see all of the different sports people chose, and the physics behind it. It was a good closure to our project.

Reflection
I enjoyed this project immensely. It was a short project, but we accomplished a lot in the seven days we had to work on the project. For the most part, our group was productive. We had our moments, but we generally still got a lot done in the given time frame. The first couple of days our group worked on story boarding and writing the script for our film. Once that was completed, we filmed certain clips for our video. I was surprised that it took us less than two class periods to film the whole video. My group was working at a nice, steady pace. We starting editing our video, adding music, text, and narration after we finished filming. It took us a few days to finish, but we were satisfied with the outcome. This is where things got difficult.
Everything was going great. We had to go back and fill in parts of our video that didn't have sound with music, but overall there were no major problems. That was until we had to fix one of the narrations. We came back to our project and everything was out of order and some of our video clips had gotten deleted. Our group had no idea what happened. This happened to us two more times. We would publish the video on youtube, something would be wrong, so we would try to fix it, but the video would be rearranged. This caused our group a lot of extra stress, but we eventually perfected the video. It was a huge relief when our group finally saw our end product exactly the way we wanted it. I for one was glad we finished because I was tired of rerecording the same narrations each day.
Patience is one thing that I think I need to work on. I can get frustrated when people are off-task and we are close to a deadline or when I don't understand something after it has been explained to me multiple times. When our project kept getting messed up, it tested my patience on how many times I felt willing to redo the video in a week. I did learn an important life lesson during this project. I became better at compromising and sharing the leadership role. Our whole group was leaders, so we had too step back sometimes and let the others have more control. We all had great ideas, that we were able to incorporate into our video. I was less demanding and controlling, which definitely helped. I think that our group got along really well, even if we bickered once in a while. A bonus was we were a pretty productive group. Our time management was good and we didn't stress over not finishing our video on time. This helped me a lot with being too bossy because I wasn't stressed or worried that we wouldn't finish on time. Our communication was very smooth and we all got to share our ideas. I had an amazing time making our physics of sports videos, and am looking forward to our next project.
